An online event on Wildfires and Climate presented by Associate Professor Apostolos Voulgarakis, AXA Chair at the Technical University of Crete, organized by the AXA Research Fund and AXA XL, will take place on Sep 21 | 5-5:45 pm CEST.
Wildfire is one of the most poorly understood “players” in our Earth system. While not all fire is bad, there is a rapid increase in devastating wildfires worldwide. On the occasion of the launch of the AXA Chair in Wildfires and Climate at the Technical University of Crete, Dr. Apostolos Voulgarakis will present in a webinar the main challenges that science and society face regarding future wildfires. Throughout the talk, Dr. Voulgarakis will introduce you to how fires can shape our climate, emphasizing boreal and Arctic regions, where wildfires may have the ability to drastically impact Earth’s climate in the decades to come.
