2025 Silver Jubilee Medal winner Elia Psillakis, Technical University of Crete, Greece.

In 2025 the Silver Jubilee medal has been awarded to Professor Elia Psillakis, Technical University of Crete, Greece. The Silver Jubilee Medal was created in 1982 to mark the 25th anniversary of The Chromatographic Society, with the intention of recognising up-and-coming separation scientists who have made major use of separation science in their own field or have made important contributions to a particular area of separation science.

ChromSoc is a UK registered charity founded in 1956 that promotes and disseminates knowledge on all aspects of chromatography and related separation techniques. ChromSoc have strong links with several scientific societies including, British Mass Spectrometry Society (BMSS), Royal Society of Chemistry Separation Science Group (RSC SSG) and International Symposium on Chromatography (ISC)

In their announcement, the ChromSoc mentions:

Professor Elia Psillakis joined the Technical University of Crete in 2005, becoming a full professor in 2015. Her research is primarily oriented towards sample preparation and extraction techniques, of which she has valorised the vacuum-assisted headspace microextraction technique (Extratech). She has also recently become head of the EuChemS-DAC Sample Preparation Study Group and Network. Professor Psillakis is also a leading light in the field of sustainable analytical methods, introducing the concepts of scoring the ‘greenness’ of sample preparation (AGREEprep) and circular analytical chemistry. She has published over 100 peer-reviewed publications (10000 citations), and 7 book chapters. Her research is well cited, having an h-index of 52.

Outside of research she is widely involved in teaching and education activities, such as serving on editorial boards (Advances in Sample Preparation, Environmental Analysis for Frontiers in Analytical Science), giving seminars, and speaking at international conferences (for example the HPLC conference series and ISC2024). She is also a Co-Chair of the IUPAC Project: Greenness of official standard sample preparation methods.

Professor Psillakis is the definition of a rising star, and The Chromatographic Society are delighted to name her as the 2025 Silver Jubilee Medal winner.
